Generally, the definition of portrait can be driven to an image as a proof of an existence; a very ordinary image that can be seen in our daily life, such as portrait on ID card and passport. This project wants to see deeper relation of portrait with its historical, cultural and social aspect. The face within a portrait is not merely an individual representation as captured on camera, instead it reflects the space and time surrounding the subject.
2nd POSE is a photography project which wants to explore the idea of portraiture as a document of daily life interactivity. In this project, MES 56 took pictures of artists from various disciplines amidst the everyday city dynamics of Jogja. The preference of artist as the main object and urban landscape as the background is aimed as visual archiving of local art figures, as well as reasserting that the artist is an integral part of the city where they live in.
