When I came across the idea of plastic flowers meet traditional Javanese bridal culture, I was impressed to the plastic material of the most modern human technology and the ancient Javanese culture. I realized this curiosity by collaborating with my mother, who was a make-up artist for traditional Javanese weddings, I created my work entitled “New Romantic” photo portrait series.

From this work, I continued to explore my ideas for plastic flowers created in this world. The repetition pattern is very closely related to the plastic flower, from the visual form to the continuous and repeated production process, then I started to see this in the photography work process, I wanted to see and experiment about how the repetition relation in the working process of a plastic flower, material plastic and photography by utilizing plastic flowers and plastic materials outside of photography.

For the last 3 years since before the pandemic, I tried to start using resin and repetition collage, at first it was a collage of photo prints that were made repetitive and stacked so that there was a 3 dimensional impression; which I then took this approach further by no longer just using photographic printed collages but searching and arranging the objects found. The act of arranging and composing it can be thought of as a compositional act that is usually done by a photographer when taking pictures. Composing includes choices of design, lighting, shape, color and momentum; which I then freeze [record] with resin. The array of objects is the event, while the resin is the camera.
