This series of drawings imagines scenes based on excerpts from two important books that reveal the stories of young women in pre-independence Indonesia who were forced to become ianfu (comfort women), one of which was written by Pramoedya Ananta Toer. Very few people have written about their experiences during the Japanese occupation from 1942 to 1945, and only a small number of books attempt to trace their lives. For this reason, this work seeks to fill that gap by creating illustrations based on the testimonies of survivors documented in the book Perawan Remaja dalam Cengkeraman Militer.
