“Of Pixel and The Elastic Mind”, besides examining the technical aspects of digital image production, also seeks to explore the relationship between image, memory, gesture, and how these elements influence the reading of visual works. Consider the following question: What happens when we encounter an image we’ve never seen before? One we’ve never heard of or read about from someone else’s experience? One that exists outside our knowledge and memory? Then, how do we relate the ‘partial’ experience to ‘whole’ knowledge?
This work invites the viewer to dive into those questions — about the experience of seeing and seeing through experience, and the ongoing effort to find meaning in what we call an art event. The photographs were produced by extracting a 1-pixel horizontal line by 4000 pixels vertically, then resampling it into a 4000 x 4000 pixel digital image.
