Green Hypermarket is my experience in seeing a simple but real practice in Indonesian society, which often utilizes and reuses used cans or packaging from instant food and beverages as planting media for plants. Whether they realize it or not, people have saved the ‘commercial value’ of these wasted packaging as green elements around their homes.

Green Hypermarket has two stages in its process:

First.
The process that I experienced myself as part of a community that cares about the environment, namely by using the packaging that has been wasted into planting media and planting plants of various types.

Second
Borrowing from the results that the community has done, as a form of social relations and the same behavior, namely as a savior of the living environment in a smaller scope.

Photography in this process becomes a tool to record or document a creative and inspiring process that exists in the surrounding community to become simple but important knowledge.

As a final result, Green Hypermarket becomes one of the great photographic documentation of a unique and “intimate” ‘friendship’ between the instant/packaging world and nature/environment, as a sign and proof that the balance of nature will depend on the decisions of us who live on this earth.

The final presentation of this project will be printed in 3 sizes, 100 cm diameter totaling 30 pcs. The diameter of 60 cm is 80 pcs and the diameter of 40 cm is 40 pcs. The total number of this series is 150 pcs with a circle format as a symbol of natural balance.

In 2011 the Green Hypermarket concept was selected as one of the contemporary photographic works from Indonesia invited for the 7th Asian Pacific Triennale in 2012 in Australia. The works will be exhibited at the Gallery of Modern Art & Queensland Art Gallery, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia from December 2012 to April 2013.
